In his thoughts, he has a manifucturer of concrete. What sets his works private and exclusive is, he has a great work on concrete is he used concrete what it is with smooth surfaces, if he wanted to decorate the interior or exterior of concrete, he just cover concrete with materials which are natural, timber, stone and etc. His thoughts about designing a space and a building, “just concrete is enough”. However, in his works, he looks like he is carefull about while casting concrete. He is an employer, but he worked with the labours and he show his works, it was better than the labours.
In addition, he gave great influenced to me, because most of our studio’s have design problems with adopting the materials to our projects. To consider on Mr Liao’s works, I could think about in different way of designing interior and exterior together with one element, concrete.
Olnick Spanu’s Glassbox by Alberto Campo Baeza as quotation
Throughout the term, our instructors expected us to research about modern house concepts and search about architects ideas behind the houses. The course has main requirements which are quote and reference from the researches. I have researches about “vista” condition in my project.
Why I chose it?
Because, we have given topography that we should adopt our thinkings and my topography has cliffs, pond and forest inputs. The best way to adopt a house on these conditions is vista condition. It has different ways to process the vista condition and one of the strong idea is choosing glassbox top of the hills which is connecting the two hills. Then, I made researches about glassboxes and I encounter Campo Baeza’s Olnick Spanu House. Olnick Spanu is located top of a hill. He made his idea for giving vista to dense forest. Far away the hill, there is a pond and he has also give vista to pond. He put a strong mass under his glassbox with serving spaces and private areas. His main idea is impressing the guess with nature where the owner of the house entertain his guests in glassbox.
I am unfluenced from that idea to put glassbox to pass into the nature inside of the common area.

After the qutation, I have some elements from previous juries which is Campo Baeza’s House of the Infinite to buried the mass and my previous quotation turned into a reference which is Erkut Şahinbaş’s Şahinbaş Evi’s atrium to seperate the mass. In House of the Infinite, Campo Baeza buried the mass perpendicular to ground and it was influenced me to put strong mass between two cliffs. To consider on Şahinbaş Evi, Erkut Şahinbaş seperated his office and private area with atrium. However, in his project, he connecting his masses with atrium and he create a circulation between outside and inside. I chose that condition negatively to separate the mass with shafting the atrium condition, because in quotation, I created circulation between office and private area with glass box. In final decisions, I need to get inside the light, because masses has limited daylight because of burial. I chose House of the Secret Gardens’ window contion to enlarge the light.

In final decision, I consider on Olnick Spanu’s construction system and niche condition, because Campo Baeza’s progress of seperating the private area and serving spaces at his mass and in glassbox, he used niches to use his limited area as serving spaces of common area. In his progress, he stretched structural system of Glassbox (10 cylinderical columns) towards mass. It provides him to set walls of bottom side. It is reference to my project to stretch the columns towards 2 separated mass and it also providing me to create rooms at the ground floor.
